a bit about me:

I’m Alex and I’m a journalist and senior at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where I am majoring in communication studies with a concentration in mass media and a double minor in journalism and English.

Throughout high school, I developed a passion for photographing, interviewing people and writing about their experiences as an editor on yearbook and newspaper. After starting college, I joined the Niner Times, the student-run newspaper of UNC Charlotte. By sophomore year, I had taken on the role of news editor and was promoted to managing editor my senior year.

I’ve written and photographed for multiple publications, including The State Port Pilot, The Shelby Star, The Gaston Gazette, Creative Loafing and The Charlotte Business Journal.

In addition to writing and photography, I am also familiar with basic HTML, social media and filming/editing video.

Being a journalist has taught me so much about the world around me and the different experiences that people have.

When I’m not in the newsroom, I’m most likely visiting my family in Oak Island. We go to the beach and enjoy fishing and boating. I also like reading, hiking and exploring new places.
